Most upholstery projects come down to a choice between two adhesive categories, and picking the wrong one leads to either a weak hold or a mess that is difficult to undo.

Spray adhesive is the go-to for bonding foam to wood or fabric backing, attaching lightweight materials like muslin or batting, and covering large surfaces quickly. Proper drying time matters as much as the adhesive itself. Applying glue and pressing surfaces together before the adhesive reaches the right tack stage weakens the bond.
